Our Little White Hope

Jade and I have been looking for a dog lately - particularly a maltese.  We had found the perfect little guy at the OC Animal Shelter and had our hearts set on him - how could you not by looking at this cutie?

Since adoptions are done on a first-come, first-served basis, we had to be the first in line to get a number to get first dibs on any of the available animals.  The office opens at 8am, and from the feedback we got from the volunteers at the shelter, people apparently line up considerably earlier.  We figured we would try to get there by 5-5:30, thinking that should be early enough.

I decided not to sleep and just pull an all-nighter.  Jade woke up at 4:30 and we both got ready.  We stopped at starbucks for our caffeine fix and headed to the shelter.  As soon as we pulled in to the parking lot, lo and behold there was a short line already.  I tried to reassure Jade that maybe they were adopting a different dog.  As we fell in line and took a couple of sips of our coffee the lady at the front of the line queried, “Are you here to adopt a particular dog?”  I hesitated for a bit not wanting to give away who we were there to see.  ”One of the little white dogs,” I carefully replied.  After further investigation, she was there to get the same dog we wanted, and the family behind her wanted our second choice.

So here we are, a little heartbroken, but I am glad that those sweet dogs are going to good homes.  The search for our little guy continues…
